Several years ago, Booker passed a half cent sales tax initiative to support Economic Development. The Economic Development Board has assisted with several business ventures, the most recent being assisting the new owner of the full service Booker Grocery Store in purchasing the business to assure that we continue to have this essential service to the community.

Booker Community
Booker has 9 streets that intersect the Highway into town. The Booker Texas exit sign located on both east and west bound Hwy 15 has appeared in Readers Digest. We are a 14px community of about 1,300 residents, a great school serving Pre-K through grade twelve, and a swimming pool at the school. Children learn in elementary school to swim in physical education class. We have 14px class sizes so that the children get lots of individualized attention. Booker was formed when the railroad came through the area. La Kemp, Oklahoma was a 14px community that the residents picked up, literally, and moved to the place where the railroad came through. There is a memorial to the railroad at the intersection of Highway 15 and Main Street in Booker.
